Beat Lehmann

World/Choral/Gypsy Choir

Before winning the Queensland final of the 2006 ABC Classic Fm Choir of the Year Competition with Aquapella, his Townsville based world music choir, Beat was directing an equally successful choir in NSW with several appearances at the National Folk Festival in Canberra and the Woodford Folk Festival where his choir was chosen for the ABC TVs documentary "Festival on Fire". In 2007 and 2010 he was invited to share his unique style of a cappella world music at the international Stimmenfestival in Germany where he also workshopped with "Kali Cercen", an original Gypsi Romani group and "Tutarchela" a Georgian women's choir. This coming year will be the third time that he performs with Aquapella at the Woodford Folk Festival and he will also conduct the Woodford Fire Event Choir for the third time in a row.

Beat was born in Switzerland, sang in big classical productions in Europe and was guest member of a famous Welsh male choir for a year. Being a Social Anthropologist and Linguist his music focuses on the rich musical heritage of cultures around the globe. To delve into the incredible variety and depth of a cappella world music and the cultures it represents is not only great fun, but also a very enriching and moving experience.
Beat brings his skill and enthusiasm as a teacher and facilitator to act as a musical tour guide for his weekend singing workshops under the motto "travel the world by song"!
