2012 is well and truly under way and it's time to bring on the ORIGINAL music again. Cairns Folk n Roots first concert night for the year happens on Saturday March 31st. Arthouse will be host to a superb line up of four dynamic performers featuring Steve Skinner direct from Brisbane and some home grown talent from our very own local singer/songwriters, Ray-Lee, Steve Baker and Frank Frikker.

Steve Skinner - Direct from Brisbane, Steve Skinner brings his unique jazz-infused blues tunes to the Cairns Folk n Roots stage. Steve's a veteran of the music scene, having toured Europe in the 70's with bands, "Saraband", "Future" and "Smack Alley". In the early 80's Steve Skinner made the move to Australia where he performed solo and as a member of celebrated Brisbane trio "Itchy Fingers", before joining "The Rantan Bush Band" touring Queensland up and down the coast.

In the late 80's Steve Skinner visited and toured New Zealand where his music was well received. Returning to Australia in the early 90's "Skinner" recorded his album "AFTER DINNER BLUES" and has since returned to the studio again with his latest release "STAY A LITTLE WHILE" available NOW on i-tunes and Amazon.

Ray-Lee - Cairns songstress Ray-Lee has been singing since she could talk and playing music since she was seven. Her debut EP "Life is Different" was released in December 2011. Several tracks were shortlisted for the Australian Songwriters contest, with 'Starting Line' finishing in the Top 10 of the Youth Category. Drawing on influences such as Julia Stone and Emma Louise, Ray-Lee has been performing her folk/pop tunes at local venues for two years, gathering a collection of talent and songwriting awards along the way. She has had numerous radio appearances and was personally asked to audition for the 2012 season of Australia's Got Talent. Ray-Lee has also been spreading her wings across Australia with an appearance at the Relay for Life concert in Melbourne.

Steve Baker - Steve Baker (our favourite dentist) is no stranger to the Cairns Folk n Roots scene. A well-loved, seasoned local performer and regular at the Rusty's Market buskers stage, Steve writes about the big topics of life - strong women, death and ice-cream. From biting satire to poignant self-reflection, Steve Baker is a keen observer of life and the living, a master story teller and gypsy jazz guitar enthusiast; it won't take long before he'll have you spell-bound.

Frank Frikker - Having travelled and lived overseas for many years, Frank Frikker is an inspired songwriter with many stories to tell. Influenced by the lyric driven Chanson style of France and Germany of the 70's and 80's, he is a classical singer/songwriter. One half of local duo, A Good Drop, Frank Frikker is sure to deliver an intimate performance, bringing his own unique sound and style to the Cairns Folk n Roots stage and songs with a social conscience.

Cairns Folk n Roots is on Saturday 31st March 7pm at Arthouse (240 Scott St via McCoombe).
