Dave Cooke
Covers/Originals/Roots Solo
"An earthy blend of powerful vocals, acoustic guitar, lap slide guitar, didgeridoos and stomp box gives rise to a rich, full sound with interesting diversity and driving intensity"
2010 is already proving to be a ‘breakthrough year’ for Dave Cooke.
Having just completed a highly successful six week tour from Port Douglas to Byron Bay to promote his second self funded album ‘Hieroglyphs’, Dave is back in the far north just in time for the sunshine to play at a venue near you.
With his roots firmly planted in Kuranda, far north Qld, Dave has earned a living as a full time musician since 2001. Dave cut his teeth as a resident resort musician in the first two thirds of the last decade performing regularly at ‘Ayers rock resort’ and ‘Dunk Island resort’ clocking up over 200 gigs a year, a workload which he still maintains today.
The last few years have seen Dave build a strong following all over the far north region in Cairns, Kuranda, Port Douglas, Mission beach, Cooktown and Cape tribulation selling several thousand cd’s off the stage. He is now the most heavily booked solo act in the entire region. (see www.entertainmentcairns.com)
May and June will be very busy months for Dave with 32 gigs already booked in this period (see the gig guide for details).
Some highlights include an album launch at the ‘Salthouse’ in Cairns on Sunday 9th May at 4 PM, a Kuranda launch at the Kuranda Folk Club (CWA hall Kuranda) on the Friday 4th June, support act for Ash Grunwald at the new amphitheatre at AJ Hackett Smithfield on Saturday 5th June, playing on ABC far north radio and a feature in the Cairns Post ‘Time out’ magazine.
Further ahead, Dave has been invited to play on the main stage at the rapidly growing 3 day Mission beach ‘EVOLVE’ festival on Saturday 16th October, 2010.
Dave is also available as the ‘Dave Cooke Duo’ with the very talented Billy Tarrant performing backing vocals and playing Tabla, Cajon and percussion.
Dave’s band ‘JAIA RAIN’ is available as a three piece with bass, four piece with drums or five piece with trumpet.
Dave plays ‘TARRANT’ guitars. www.tarrantguitars.net
Available as a original act or as a cover artist with a difference, Dave has a large repertoire of material with broad appeal including classics, folk, roots, blues and pop styles.
His unique multi-instrumental abilities always engage the audience and always draws the young and the old in from the street.
