The Global Battle of the Bands (GBOB) competition is coming to Cairns!

Global Battle of the Bands (GBOB) has officially begun for 2009! The opening Heat was held in Newcastle on 13th June where some top quality bands really impressed the local crowd. Bands in Cairns will now get their shot at the US$100,000 prize money when the Heat runs on 18th July. Age is no boundary as the Bull Bar has agreed to host an all ages event!
The band that succeeds in the Cairns Heat will automatically win a spot in the National Final in Sydney. And if the judges give them the nod here, theyll be on a plane to London in December with accommodation and flights paid! In London, the winners will challenge bands from 36 different countries for the Grand Prize.
One of the local bands that have registered for this upcoming Heat is the alternative rock band, August Redemption. Luke, Rhythm Guitarist for August Redemption, has been playing music for the past eight years. He says the bands musical influences range from Metallica, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Their debut album Liquid Courage was released last year. They are expected to release a new EP later this year.
In November last year, Aussie rock band, Powerage travelled to London as part of the Global Battle of the Bands Challenge. The boys had the opportunity to represent our nation, and did us proud by coming second out of 36 competing bands! This year were hoping to go one better and bring the major prize of US$100,000 cash onto Australian soil.
There are some other great prizes on offer, including FujiFilm Z33WP Digital Cameras, Converse Shoes and accommodation at YHA at the National Final in Sydney.
