Most seventeen year olds are usually found in shopping centres, hanging out with friends or hitting up skate ramps for some excitement, but Kirsten Wood is clearly an exception. Instead, this talented singer songwriter can be found entertaining audiences around the Cairns local region at every spare moment. Originally from Brisbane Australia, Kirsten has grown up searching for creative ways to unleash her emotions and thoughts, expressing her personal experiences in a way her fans can relate to easily. Her songs provoke images of The Veronicas, Michelle Branch and Avril Lavigne, though with less of a pop/rock element and more of an acoustic raw and alternative edge. Kirsten's unique voice and mature lyrics will leave you mesmerised.

Currently working on her debut EP, 'The Power of Words' is sure to turn heads and leave listeners wanting more. "One of the tracks on my EP called 'Runaway' is all about my journey as a musician and not really knowing where it will take me. It's a song about breaking out, taking chances and being true to yourself".

Kirsten was 9 years old when she discovered her passion for music. She recalls the excitement of performing for the first time, "I remember standing there on stage, singing my heart out in front of hundreds of people and had a sudden realisation I wanted to be a performer for the rest of my life".

Recent achievements Kirsten is most proud of is being nominated for the Best Solo Artist in the 2010 TimeOUT Awards recognising Cairns' local talent, getting into the Battle of the Bands 2010 heats and securing a place in the final of Cairns Has Got Talent in 2011. Not only is Kirsten a musician, but in her spare time she enjoys writing novels, is interested in photographic journalism and is heavily involved with charity fundraisers. She also recently supported the Cairns Reef Casino fundraiser for the Queensland Disaster Relief Appeal.
