Mikey Hayman’s music career began quite early in High School original bands but it wasn’t long before he realised that a solid career as a working musician lay in the world of covers bands and corporate performances.
Quickly aligning himself with successful Sydney covers bands, Mikey gained a wealth of experience in performing at the highest levels.
Mikey performed in Sydney bands, duos and solo for 3 years before moving to the Gold Coast where he furthered each aspect of his professional performance in bands such as Ground Hog, PUMP, Hedonism, Dr Strangelove and more.
Before moving to Cairns in 2000, Mikey had accrued performance time at NRL Half Time shows, corporate shows throughout Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast & Brisbane and has worked with Jimmy Barnes, Christine Anu, Goanna, Tim Finn, Rhonda Birchmore, Darryl Somers, Phil Emmanuel, and supported such acts as Grinspoon, Rose Tattoo, Bachelor Girl, Regurgitator, Powderfinger and many more.
Mikey Hayman is a dynamic and versatile vocalist, guitarist and front man.
His on-stage persona ranges from subdued and stylised, to polished and professional, to raunchy and rocky. Truly a showman, Mikey is capable of adapting to suit almost any event or occasion and is just as comfortable being a part of a backing band to showcase other people talents.
Mikey vocal repertoire covers over 1600 songs ranging from Big Band, Swing, Jazz, Blues, Rock’n’Roll, Soul, Country/Western, Rock, Pop, Disco, Grunge and Ballads and covers the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and of course the Noughties.
Mikey is currently involved in several projects in Cairns, most notably The Windy City Soul Train, which has been part of the staple diet of Cairns music since 2001.
Originally formed as a house band for the world famous Johno's Blues Bar, the band has been through many incarnations and has featured guest musicians including original members of Steppenwolf, The Bondi Cigars, The Swinging Alley Katz, Johno’s Blues Band and even Aussie music legends Jimmy Barnes and Phil Emmanuel.
The nucleus consists of a powerful three piece combo of Mikey Hayman (Guitar & Vocals), Bruce McKenzie (Bass) and Brett Wilkinson (Drums), however the band can expand up to an 12 piece ensemble consisting of keyboards and brass section and backing vocals, to suit any occasion or budget.
An unbeatable selection of tunes is crafted skilfully by experienced musicians in one of Cairns’ best and long-lasting musical acts.
Another project is the long awaited formation of “Heaven & Soull” which brings Mikey together with a rising star in Cairns, Heather Angell.
With her delicate voice and gorgeous harmonies, Heather brings a dimension to the show that ideally suits serene and romantic settings and events, such as weddings.
