Cairns' foremost artist run space, Arthouse, returns with a dynamic program for 2012, and an exciting opening to the year.

For the last 2 years, Arthouse has supported and produced a range of contemporary music, visual media and performance projects and events, and will this year will present major shows as part of the On Edge and Cairns Festivals.

The unique space kicks into the new year with a stellar line up of live music and arts as part Mixed Grill, which aims to present diverse cultural expression across genres, artforms and demographics.

Mixed Grill returns with the dynamic I&I Tuala, a roots heavy Samoan reggae outfit, who specialise in their own brand of pacifica roots. I&I Tuala write and play a very succinct roots style, mashing Samoan chants and singing, skanking rhythms, and reggae sensibility.

They'll be supported by local Kuranda ukulele duo Bosko & Honey, fresh from a southern tour and new CD release late last year. These guys deliver an amazingly eclectic show (all on Uke's), from soul to roots, punk to jazz and calypso, this duo is a hidden Far North treasure.

Visual and fine artist Wally Wallwork will lead his The Next Page crew in producing live graffiti delights, while performance artists Font, Hanzard and File_Error will present absurd and sublime contemporary performance and media treats.

Guest DJ Senior Rudekat from Brisbane returns to home base with a range of new island and bass music, while DJ's Kanaka and No_Request will keep the roots and gypsy vibes going.

Mixed Grill takes place on Saturday 25th February, at Arthouse, 240 Scott St (via McCoombe St). Doors open 7.00pm, show from 8.00pm and Tix $7/5 on the door.
