Omid Master

Alternative/Acoustic/Festivals Band

Omid Master started learning the guitar at the age of 10 years. At 15 when changing to Camberwell Grammar School he and a drummer found they didn't fit in with the school's norms but preferred jamming and song writing.

Later they formed a band called "Engine Room", then university took Master to Ballarat where he formed the band Naked Faces. He returned to Melbourne to work with hard rock band Freakshow who opened for acts like Defryme and Grin Spoon. They did shows at venues like Chasers nightclub and packed the Esplanade hotel Gershwin room when launching their EP. Master went to the Melba Conservatorium of music for singing lessons and later trained with David Jaanz, who worked with artists such as Delta Goodram and Anastasia.

In 2001 he moved to North Queensland where he started working as a solo artist, working regularly in pubs, hotels and festivals around regional Queensland.

In 2005 he collaborated with a poet to find their track was chosen as the theme song for the Laura Festival where it was performed in conjunction with the headline act Colored Stone. Since then he has played at numerous North Queensland events including the Townsville Cultural Fest, Yungaburra Tableland Festival, Essence Festival, Port Douglas Carnivale and Festival Cairns to name a few.

In 2008 he signed a distribution deal with Green Media who were set up by MGM for artists who have less opportunities in remote regions of Australia. During this time he was using the pseudo name Eagle but later was convinced by punters and friends to use his own name.

In 2010 he started his own record label Om core music and re-released his debut album using his own name with the title track "Everything is okay". This track became popular among Douglas region locals, so was chosen as the Port Douglas Carnivale theme song.

His second album Forgotten about today was released December 2010 and entered the www.waterfrontrecords.com chart at number 8 and progressed to number 4 with pre-release sales for three weeks running.

The album relates to life on the coast and reflects his need to live for the moment and stand up against norms. A journalist described the new material seen at a live show as: a heady blend of impressive instrumentation, crafted lyrics and relative themes.

Omid Master has opened for Eskimo Joe, Lior, Dallas Crane, Dave Graney and more.

He is currently writing his third album and has nearly finished the first single "Daintree Dancing" which takes him back to his alternative roots.
