Artworks in this exhibition look at patterns created in art by artists from two remote North Queensland areas, the Torres Strait and Lockhart River. Artists from these areas are passionate about their land, customs and traditions, which is clearly evident in the work they produce. From the traditional incised patterning of the Torres Strait Islands to the symbolic motifs represented in works by the Lockhart River Art Gang, each artist uses methods that look at composition, ratio and symmetry whilst incorporating lifestyle, cultural values and traditional customs.
