Salt House
Marina Point Cairns
Situated at Marina Point, next to the new Cairns Yacht Club facilities, Salt House is a unique dining, bar and entertainment venue offering a panorama of the ocean, marina and city on the waterfront in Cairns.
Salt House has been designed by renowned Sydney designer Michael McCann of Dreamtime Australia Design and the fluid space allows uninterrupted views of the changing colours of the ocean and mountains that encircle the city.
Salt House offers a space that is glamorous, funky, chilled-out, progressive, stylish, calming, lively and welcoming all at once. Salt House is heavily focussed on providing an atmosphere that can be enjoyed by locals and visitors to Cairns.
Breezy seascapes and tranquil ponds during the day give way to a buzzing atmosphere and a discerning crowd as the sun goes down and the night heats up. With live acts playing 5 nights a week and every sunday afternoon it is the only venue to visit to please all your senses at once.
Taste and Smell- the food from the Restaurant each dish is very visual as people eat with
their eyes first, this is backed up with the unique flavours that burst into your mouth leaving you with a complete dining experience.
See - Enjoy the tropical surrounds, Salt House has been built to take full advantage of Cairns and the beautiful tropical weather, greenery and water. From ponds flowing through the venue to the boats impressively on show in the Marina.
Hear - local and international artists performing 5 nights a week and every sunday afternoon. Immerse yourself in Jazz each Wednesday night and relax and enjoy the chilled sounds of Sundays afternoon live sessions.
Feel - there are many places to just sit and relax at Salt House with lounges to sit or lie on you will always find a comfortable place to let time go by.
Directors Fintan Rafferty and Lui Garozzo took years to research their concept, from travelling to view the worlds most acclaimed venues, such as The Shore Club in South Beach, Florida and Ku De Ta in Bali, to make sure they were heading in the right direction.
Mr Rafferty said the idea behind Salt House was to merge the ambience of Far North Queensland with a key restaurant, bar and entertainment venue, resulting in something which hasnt been seen before in the region. He said checking out venues in similar climates around the world gave good inspiration, specifically Ku De Ta.
It was a pub, it was a restaurant, it was a music venue all in one, he said.
It had a relaxed atmosphere - its a real melting pot.
Both the local directors (and owners) are from strong hospitality backgrounds Fintan from a service perspective having owned La Pizza on the Esplanade for many years, and Lui from a food background that spans generations so they were well placed to know what positives and negatives to look for when creating their dream venue.
Luis passion lay in creating a top quality restaurant / bar environment where utilising the best local produce and creating a unique and tropical-flavoured menu was paramount, while Fintans heart lay in entertainment, trying to provide not only a restaurant and a bar, but also a mini entertainment precinct all within Salt House.
There seemed to be lacking a quality entertainment venue that wasnt focused specifically on the backpacker market in Cairns, and wasnt just about entertainment, Fintan said.
We wanted to create a quality venue that was well-priced, family friendly, and a location that was great, so it gave us lots of scope to include different function areas.
This site leant itself to a public bar, public and private dining areas, and areas for live music and a DJ booth.
From passion, and considerable patience across many years of work, the ethos of Salt House was borne. With a successful start and rave reviews, it certainly seems the Salt House dream has become a reality that will pave a new direction for venues in Far North Queensland for years to come.
The story of Salt House has just begun.....
