Cairns Regional Gallery is proud to present the first exhibition for the newly revamped 2010 Loft Emerging Artists Program.

Sentinels, by local artist Leith Maguire, will be officially launched on Saturday January 30th and remain on display in the Loft Gallery until 7th March.

Maguire, a graduate from Griffith University College of Art in Brisbane, has long held an awareness of the coastal environment. In Sentinels, an exhibition of new pen and ink drawings on paper, Maguire’s figures have evolved into creatures with characteristics usually associated with coastal birds In Maguire’s work, these part-human/part-avian beings represent facets of life common to both humans and birds.
