Returning in 2009, Tanks Unplugged will again unearth a host of local talent, while showcasing up-and-coming musicians in the region.
From the format of a popular monthly event, Tanks Unplugged has changed emphasis this year, so instead of monthly Sunday afternoon showcases, the new-look Unplugged will be staged across three Friday nights throughout 2009.
Building on last years impressive program, the new Tanks Unplugged will put the spotlight on bands, rather than soloists and duos, and will feature the highest quality and most regarded established talent of the region.
There will still be a space for emerging artists in the round that will be precede each evenings double headline.
Tanks Unplugged 09 will kick off on Friday 29 May with a Celtic-themed night starring Evenish and Kamerunga, two acts which both recently represented Far North Queensland with distinction at Woodford Folk Festival.
Evenish is no stranger to Tanks Unplugged, and their return brings with them a strong local and national following.
Well-known for their Celtic medleys, the group features fiddler Khalida De Ridder and her partner David Foster, both who have performed around the country under different guises.
Kamerunga only launched in the region October last year and already theyre making waves around the country, from performances at Yungaburra Folk Festival and Port Fairy Folk Festivals, as well as Woodford.
Now theyre heading for international acclaim.
The bands debut release, The Push garnered a string of reviews in national publications taking Celtic and Australian folk into new territory.
