Simon Thielke (DK) is one of the most exciting exports to the Australian guitar scene. A graduate of the Royal Danish Academy, he has been mentored by some of the world’s greatest authorities of guitar including in masterclass with Marco Tamayo, David Russell, Hubert Kappel, Luis Zea, Craig Ogden, Denis Azabagic, Pavel Steidl, Alvaro Pierri, Gian Marco Ciampa and Andrea De Vitis. Most recently Simon has attended the Segovia Academy in Italy.
In a recent performance, members of the public commented on his silky sound, his uncompromising technical ability and deep musical understanding particularly of the Italian and Spanish classical guitar repertoire such as Fernando Sor, Paganini, Julian Arcas, Gragnani and Legnani.
As a chamber musician Simon has the ability to bring a whole new level of melodic presence to the classical guitar whilst being an excellent accompanist, instantly adapting to the situation.
As the guitarist in Trio Cavallaro, Simon will record for and be distributed by the Milan based label, Stradivarius records.
From 2009-2017 Simon taught privately and at several music conservatories in Denmark both as a permanent employee and on contracts. 2018-2019 he was the conductor of The Hobart Guitar Ensemble in Tasmania. He is currently undertaking a PhD candidature in guitar performance and research at WAAPA in Western Australia.
