A is for Art Forum - Children's Art Forum

This year, the Cairns Children’s Festival is holding its first exhibition of children’s art, A is for Art. In the search for young artists to participate, we’ve come across parents and teachers who are grappling to find ways to better support the development of their children’s artistic skills. And they have questions:

Do adults have a role in teaching children art? Can you even teach art to a child, or is our job to provide the materials and the stimulus and get out of the way? What is the value of making art in childhood development and education?

Join us in a discussion with panel members:

Brett Howe, Director of Out of the Box Festival (QPAC)

Dr. Barbara Piscitelli AM, a leading academic and early childhood educator

Paul Campbell, Principal at Edge Hill State School

Maureen Mossman, retired early childhood educator from Boopa Werem Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Kindergaten

Lilly Gill, home schooler of five children

Hayley Gillespie, artist and regular workshop leader at Cairns Art Gallery

Parents, teachers and children all welcome.
