Benjamin Sebastian Artist Talk

Venue: Tanks Arts Centre

Benjamin Sebastian is our artist in residence at Tanks Arts Centre for the month of April, using this time to develop new studies and experiments with textile materials and printing techniques.

This residency will allow Benjamin to test ideas for future textile and installation works, drawing on their ongoing research into colonial-settler heritage and its entanglements with both sociocultural and natural worlds.

While on residency at the Tanks, Benjamin will focus their artistic research on the historical introduction of sugar cane in Queensland, as well as the ecological precarity of the endangered spectacled flying fox, using these subjects as symbolic markers to build layered narratives relating to settler-colonialism.

During this artist talk, Benjamin will share an overview of their wider practice before focusing in on the specific research and experiments developing while at Tanks Arts Centre.
