From playing snowy shows in the French Alps to opening for The Cat Empire by tropical shores Queensland independent singer/songwriter Bobby Maguire delivers his infectious brand of rock with a sound evocative of Thirsty Merc and Bernard Fanning.
As a teenager chest surgeries at the Royal Children’s Hospital put a stop to Bobby’s motorbike and football passions so he picked up the guitar and by sixteen had already performed to crowds of thousands at various music festivals with his self-made music video featuring twice on Channel Ten.
Weeks after finishing high school Bobby left his rural home for the big city of Melbourne to complete a Bachelor Degree of Music. While studying Maguire began to pen new songs as well as singing/playing in a variety of bands, music videos and even a live recital on Channel 31.
Returning home to the beaches of Far North Queensland Bobby Maguire performed live on Balcony TV before releasing his guitar-driven single ‘Breathe’ in April 2017 which achieved airplay on Triple R as well as glowing reviews in NQ Music press, Fab Magazine, Skope and more.
Barely a month later Bobby tested his talent for theatre in ‘Audrey Cuttlebuttle’s Great Bally Hooley Escape’ which ran eighteen successful shows over Port Douglas Carnivale 2017. Hosted on and around a moving train Bobby composed and performed the entire score for this daring production.
In 2018 Maguire enjoyed well received shows in France and England before returning to Cairns to share the stage with The Cat Empire and begin recording his 2019 debut album with producer Kris Hutchinson at The Studio Hutch.
After months of meticulous production Bobby Maguire has just released his self-titled album with a sold out launch show and raving reviews from Oz Music, The Partae and Tone Deaf who describe the record as, ‘A painstakingly curated collection of brilliant, sharp songwriting. Upbeat yet emotive.’
2020 is going to be a big year as Bobby and his band showcase the album live while continuing to release new music. There is never a dull moment be a part of it!
