THE REEF HOTEL CASINO PRESENTS CARAVÃNA SUN FOR 2 NIGHTS THIS APRIL AT BAR36
Sydneysiders Caravãna Sun are heading to the Far North for three special nights this February and audiences are in for a treat. Described as a ‘salt of the earth’ band, the five-piece will be bringing tracks from their three acclaimed albums and their latest revered track Whale Song. The track, which saw a tour spurned with the support of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, is a perfect representation of what Caravãna Sun are all about – it is about ‘breaking down barriers of artist and audience’.
Whale Song was penned in a way that embodies the authentic direction of the band. Composed early one morning on bassist/vocalist Ant Beard’s grandmother’s 100-year-old piano, it is honest and real. Paying homage to migration, change and movement, the track has more than 25,000 plays on Spotify alone and is a step toward the future for Caravãna Sun. Even the video for the track keeps true to the ethos, it is live and uncut – just Ant playing his grandmother’s piano by candlelight.
Their third album – Guerrilla Club – released in 2016 was recorded at the Wasteland Studios in Western Australia under the guidance of Eskimo Joe guitarist Joel Quatermain. The album is Caravãna Sun – ‘their love for Australia and its culture’ and every track aptly demonstrates the band’s songwriting nuance and musical chemistry. It is no surprise that Australian music fans – and critics – have been sitting up and listening to what this band are producing.
Caravãna Sun have been out on the road steadily since their debut Rising Falling in 2011. Their sophomore album, Aya, released in 2013 earned them more acclaim and even more fans. At one point, they performed more than 500 shows in a five-year period, not just in Australia, but internationally. Most recently, they supported UK music legends UB40 on their Australian tour. Previously, the band have also supported other UK legends Madness, and opened for Michael Franti’s Australian shows.
Don’t miss Caravãna Sun as they bring their music for The Reef Hotel Casino for 2 huge nights this April.
Friday 5 and Saturday 6 from 9pm. On Friday, Big Noise keeps the party going until 1am, with The Tall Poppies kicking on until 1am on Saturday. These are non-ticketed, free shows in BAR36.
