Collagists generally believe any loose material is potentially usable in their work. “Don’t stand still in front of me; you may find yourself attached to a canvas!”

Carole King is a professionally trained artist with a diploma in fine art, majoring in colour and design, and printmaking, and a diploma in adult education (community) from UTS Sydney. Her work is representational. However, with collage, some abstraction of shape may occur, which is not unwelcome.

My affinity with coastal areas begins with water; where plant life, water birds, sea grasses, and mangroves (habitat) create nurseries for sea communities in tidal creeks and wetlands, as in Cattana Wetlands, Cairns. Working with paper; cut, torn, gathered, and purchased with a support of canvas, allows me to create surface layers which represent to me our fragile eco-system.”
