The Carruthers and Others
The Carruthers family siblings have been playing Jazz together since they were very small. They all started music lessons at age 5 on piano, and either moved to, or added other instruments as they grew. Over ten+ years, they settled in to their preferred strengths and line-up: Jason on Sax, and twins Marcus and Isla on Bass/Drums and Keys respectively.
The recent addition/adoption of a brother from another mother and another father — Finn George-Newman on Drums — has allowed Marcus to move to double/electric bass full time, expanding their sound and repertoire. Finn is another very accomplished musician from a musical and theatre family, and together they have become The Carruthers & Others. (CAO)
They love and play modern jazz – everything from the Crooners to Exuberant Blues, BeBop and Hard Bop – all the standards, influenced by Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley, Oscar Peterson, John Coltrane (& Others) … for people who love a chilled, funky vibe, and hard-core modern jazz fans, and people who don't know they love jazz. Yet.
