Cairns Art Gallery will be at Mt Sheridan Plaza from January 18 – 22 with different activities daily with a craft station set up in Centre Court 10am and 2pm. (FREE, no bookings required, just drop in)
Here's the daily schedule:
Monday 18 January: Collage: snip, rip, cut, and create.
Inspired by FNQ tropical landscape. Kids will learn how to create images using collage techniques and objects such as cut-outs and their own drawings.
Tuesday 19 January: Sculpture Wonder
Kids will be able to create sculptures with wire. They’ll also learn to embellish and extended the sculpture with materials such as sticks, feathers, paper straws and beads.
Wednesday 20 January: Portrait Drawing
Referencing the upcoming Archibald Exhibition in the Cairns Art Gallery, children are encouraged to draw a portrait of themselves. They’ll have guidance from facilitators on how to draw their facial features and expressions.
Thursday 21 January: Upcycle
Using recycled packaging like the kinds found in a kitchen and at home. Children will repurpose things like pull-tops from tin cans and junk mail, in order to weave a bangle, make a bowl. It’s turning junk into treasure!
Friday 22 January: Australia Day Paper Plate Crafts.
Kids will use paper plates, coloured card felt pens etc, to create iconic Australian animals in 2D or 3D, just in time for Australia Day!
As this will be an open event for children to walk in and out of, we ask that parents let their children attend the art area for no more than an hour at a time to let other children have the opportunity to create.
Terms and Conditions of entry to Art Area apply.
