A popular fixture of the Cairns DJ and music scene, Papa has been DJing and playing music in Cairns for many years, and has been a musician since his schooling.

Well known for his funky tropical vibe, with Jazz and Latin influenced dance tracks a speciality, he is also comfortable exploring new music - though whatever it is, it's got to have the Funk!

He has been resident at Feelgood Fridays at the Jack Hotel - Reef Casino Retropolis, The Lounge (under Woolshed), The Salthouse, Green Ant Cantina, Calypso Backpackers ZanziBar, Metropolis (then Met Bar, then Society), Blue Sky Brewery, and Fitzroy Island. He has also played many private parties, weddings and corporate functions.

Notable major DJ gigs have included EarthDance on Fitzroy 2003, Cairns to Karumba bike ride 2012, Mental as Anything, The Radiators, Cairns High Formal 2011, and The Straits Wrap party.

He is also an accomplished Bass player, having performed with many local artists including The Raconteurs, Zephyr Deluxe, Sian Evans, Hot Rubber Glove, Chris Wighton, PA Dutch, Jeremiah Johnson, and popular Kuranda Guitar and Didge master Dave Cooke.

In Brisbane prior to Cairns he was a member of notable Brisbane bands Freeside, One Straw, ACT, Goats in the Machine, and The Fabulous Nobodies.

Currently he is resident DJ at Bar36 at the Reef Hotel Casino, playing a mashup of Retro and modern Pop with some underground favourites sprinkled in the Mix, and stage managing + running lights for the bands.

As a musician he is a member of The Raconteurs, an 8 piece Ska band that is as Festival staple in the Far North, and up and coming 5 piece Soul funk originals Band Pelicana, a project of the prolific Steve Williams.

Possessing diverse musical taste, a musician's ear, and an eclectic collection of music, Papa is equally at home playing jazz over cocktails, retro and groove tunes at weddings and corporate functions, commercial dance tracks, or cranking the kids up at 2am with last week's electro from San Francisco.

As a professional DJ, he prides himself on being client focused, flexible with music, and he enjoys tailoring his sets for themes or specific purposes like theatre/art events or conventions.

Set list
Depends on my mood, and the gig. I can play everything from 30s to 50's jazz through Jazzy House, Deep House, New Jazz, Disco House, commercial top 40, to banging funky electro breakbeat.I can also take an RnB Classics / Hip Hop turn if need be.

I love the funk! And the jazz...

What I don't play is Hard House, Jump, Trance, psytrance and other such repetitive "nunga nunga nunga" music, though I do appreciate it's place in musical Rave culture.
Influences
Dimitri from Paris, Martin Solveig, St Germain, Devo, Cal Tjader, Thelonius Monk, Dave Brubeck, Ron Carter (I wish!), Sound Republic, James Brown, De La Soul, Calvin Harris, Bob Sinclair, Ettiene De Crecy, Malente and many more...
