Classical singer-songwriter Frank Frikker has spent a lifetime traveling and working in different countries across the world and has discovered a wealth of stories that provide the foundations of his songs.
He has been inspired by the characters he has met along the way and whether his songs are humorous or serious or are tackling life-changing events, one thing remains the same Frank's songs are sung from the heart. And with the help of regional poets, such as the award-winning Helen Ramoutsaki, turning her hand to writing two of his songs, his work embraces a gentle lyricism.
German-born guitarist Frank has spent the past few months in the studio adding the final touches to his debut upcoming album of life-affirming music, having previously recorded two albums with a German band.
He says the corporate world took him away from his music, but with his move to Port Douglas, Cairns, his enthusiasm for playing was reignited and he furthered his own inimitable guitar-picking style.
Frank has been influenced by the Chanson style of France and Germany in the 1970s and 1980s and his record collection of Bob Dylan, Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, Neil Young and James Taylor remains well thumbed, and Frank can often be spotted around town, entertaining music lovers with his harmonies in the duo A Good Drop.
He spent several years as theater manager at the Clink Theater, Port Douglas, and contributed heavily to the regional arts and the live music scene. He also produced events such as Port Unplugged (for three years) and Mapping the Heart (poetry, song, photography and dance).
Depending on the gig, Frank mixes interesting covers with originals.
