Latitude 16.9013° south comprises the work of three artists who use and are inspired by botanical specimens from a variety of locations in Australia. Each artist focuses their own unique lens on the world of plants.

Jane Guthleben (Sydney) inserts endangered Australian flora into Dutch Still Life flower painting to create a neo-Baroque style that taps into Vanitas language and traditions, and comments on habitat loss and climate change. Guthleben researches historical European depictions of Australian flora from early voyages. Joanne Sisson (Ballarat) creates still-life paintings combining the untamed nature of flowers, grasses, and tree foliage. She combines plant life with her collection of glassware, which includes objects from early settlement, mid-20th century, and contemporary times. Carole Wilson (Ballarat) sources discarded maps and atlases which speak of a different era and a disappearing approach to sourcing information about locations and travel routes. She incorporates the techniques of domestic needlework to create works on paper which reference botanical forms.
