Bio: Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Matt Gerdes brings an acerbic social commentary to the tropical north music scene. Drawing on influences from Jazz, Funk, Reggae and Latin music, Matt is a dynamic presence in the Cairns music scene.
Since arriving in Cairns in early 2015, Matt has actively entwined himself in the local music scene proving to be the versatile musician.

Originally Melbourne-based, Matt has played, written and recorded with party rocking reggae outfit, El Moth, touring extensively around Victoria's pub and festival scenes. Also playing, arranging and recording with 9 piece Hip Hop, Jazz Funk crew, The High Society and the soulful & and sultry Katt Beames and the Solar Sky.
Matt has shared the stage with the likes of Aluka, Chris Altmann, Dallas Frasca, Darren Percival, James and John Morrison.
In 2012 Matt swapped the Melbourne music scene for some far north vibes, and after working around in communities on Cape York where he spent a majority of his time facilitating the local school band, Cairns morphed from a part time hub to a full time love. Since calling Cairns home, Matt’s kept busy with a bunch of projects including Cairns Post, Hit Awards winner Drewboy and upcoming dates with the soulful grooves of In The Element, the folk rhythms of The Brassett-Hounds and a world music immersion of didge, guitar and sax with Running With Blue.
