Cairns Festival 2019

Cairns Festival is the biggest event on the Cairns calendar. Celebrating art, culture and the beauty of tropical living in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. Brought to you by Cairns Regional Council.

Cairns Festival events will be held across the region from Edmonton in the south to Clifton Beach in the north, with a full program that features music, art, theatre, opera, film, comedy and more. As always the Cairns Esplanade will be the central heartbeat of the festival with annual favourites like the Grand Parade and Fireworks on Saturday 24 August as well as the free Family Concerts on Friday 23 August and Sunday 25 August.

Family Film Nights will be held on the Esplanade and the Neon Dog Park is sure to be a Festival favourite this year!

Ticketed shows at Cairns Performing Arts Centre I Want To Know What Love Is, Opera Queensland’s Songs To Die For and Circa’s Peepshow are on sale now. Details and tickets available at

Tanks Arts Centre will host You Should Be Dancing, a free community dance party that everyone is invited to - no experience necessary!

City Lights features an expanded program with the mesmerising Cairns City Library projection complemented by multimedia installations in the suburbs. Catch the Suburban Satellites in your backyard when they beam out to Redlynch, Edmonton, Caravonica and Clifton Beach with a free program including live music, circus, storytelling and community art projects.

All culminating in the festival finale, Carnival on Collins, on Sunday 1 September, with roving performers, live musicians, a motorbike show, open air art studio and over 200 market stalls.

The program is full of surprises and with most events FREE there is no reason not to venture out and celebrate our beautiful city!
