FNQ artist Tim Ellis returns to Tanks Arts Centre with a new multi-media exhibition addressing themes of masculinity and identity of the regional male.

From a male perspective, Ellis explores gents’ places and spaces, observing the life-styles and attitudes that combine to make up the manners of boys and men. Concerned by lack of engagement and male societal status, Ellis draws on imagery, both witty and candid, which looks at the role of men in rural Far North Queensland.

“I am in despair of the male identity crisis I see around me; the emasculation of our presence and voice, by men themselves, who feel uninterested and unengaged. After years of being told their masculinity is the problem, the traditional masculine virtues, things like courage, and independence, and assertiveness, get lost or appear aggressive”.

Targeted towards a male audience, this exhibition represents a man’s world; art that appeals to him and that he can recognise.
