When the Rain Falls is a site-responsive exhibition that invites artists to create works that can endure, and conceptually respond to, the realities of the wet season. Set within a climate of extreme humidity, frequent rainfall, and the omnipresent risk of mould and decay, the exhibition explores how artists can adapt to, resist, or collaborate with these environmental conditions.
Rather than treating the wet season as a logistical problem to overcome, When the Rain Falls positions it as both context and content. Artists are asked to engage with ideas of impermanence, resilience, materiality, and climate, while also innovating in practical terms – producing work that is resistant to the damp, the rot, and the mould.
