Kim Settle is an energetic lively entertainer who lights up the stage with her performances, whether it be in her solo or duo performances or with a full band behind her.
Kim Settle is simply a country girl at heart. Her family came to Australia from the USA when she was just 2 years old and settled in Cairns, Far North Queensland.
Kim's formative years were spent living on a citrus orchard, riding horses, going to the beach and sitting around a camp fire singing songs. Time spent with her Dad playing table tennis, led to Kim becoming so good at the game that she was ranked in the top 10 players in Australia.
Kim also spent many years as a Physical Education teacher and later an Early Childhood teacher where both her sport and music talent was an asset, to the teaching eternity but ongoing health problems forced Kim to reassess her lifestyle. She had always sung as a hobby but through her illness discovered song writing as a form of therapy.
Kim has always enjoyed performing songs of different genres, from country rock, pop rock, to rock and roll and rockabilly. However, as her uncle Johnny Erdelyan was a producer at one of the biggest recording studios in the World - Acuff Rose and Hickory Records ( which was owned by his brother in-law Wesley Rose along with Roy Acuff), she has been greatly inspired and influenced by artists like Hank Williams, Roy Orbison and The Everly Brothers. She can remember her Mother and father playing these artists records over and over.
These artists, and many others affiliated with the Grand Ole Opry, were signed by Acuff and Rose. This company was passed down through generation and eventually in 1982 the catalogue was sold to The Grand Ole Opry parent company Gaylord Entertainment Co. and In 2002 Gaylord sold it to Sony.
Kim's versatility has also seen her being influences by Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Linda Ronstadt, Brenda Lee, Wanda Jackson, Emmylou Harris. Patty Loveless as well as the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Gloria Gaynor, Sher, Pat Benatar, Susie Q. The list goes on. More recently Kim's has been influenced by Taylor Swift, The Dixie Chicks, Gretchen Wilson, Sugarland, and Australia own Kasey Chambers, Tania Kernaghan, Beccy Cole and The
McClymont's as well as Adele, Katie Perry, Gabriella Cilme and many other female as well as male artists not mentioned.
Kim has performed in many venues across the country and also worked the country music circuit in Queensland and NSW, including major Festivals like Tamworth and Charters Towers, winning and placing in numerous Talent Quest.
Some of Kim's greatest achievements were when she won her first major competition and a recording time where she recorded "The Rose" first made famous by Bette Midler. She also won the right to perform at the Queensland Champion of Champions and she would say that probably her most recent achievement, winning her first song writers competition where she sang her own song "Please Forgive" would be her most rewarding and challenging of all.
Kim has finally released her first EP titled 'Rock'n Sweet Country' which contains three original songs and two classic covers. The EP was recorded at Pegasus Studios in Cairns and produced by Nigel Pegrum (who also appears on drums). Kim was thrilled to be able to round up the cream of Cairns musicians to play on the EP including Gordon Sheard (guitar and bass), Simon McMenamin (violin) Steve Gilbert (Harmonica) and Libby Brockenshire (backing vocal).
Kim and band along with her long time collaborator John Comrie recently appeared on Balcony TV Cairns where they recorded an interview and live version of the first single 'The Boys Are Back in Town' Keep an eye out for that clip coming soon to the worldwide online music program Balcony TV. Kim also had her first radio interview on ABC FNQ last month where her songs are being played, so look out for that. She has also had some air play on Cairns FM 89.1 Irene Barrett- Driving home with the Blues.
As well as performing in her home town Kim hopes to take her music on the road in 2018. In 2019 Kim has an offer to perform as one of the main acts at Two Country Music Festivals in NZ. Her dream is to perform in Nashville.
As a friend and fellow musician, Kim's talent has always been obvious to me. I am proud to be associated with Kim through the music industry. Her exciting and entertaining personality along with her talent and the music she plays seems to always leave the crowd wanting more.
