Understory Film Festival Screening and Awards Presentation

Now in its 12th year, the Understory Film Festival returns bigger than ever, spotlighting the creativity of North and Far North Queensland filmmakers.

Join us at the Tanks Arts Centre for a magical evening celebrating creativity and local filmmaking talent. Be captivated as we screen the Understory 2025 Finalist Shortlist, showcasing a diverse lineup of exceptional short films.

Following the screening, the excitement continues with our Awards Presentation, where we honour the outstanding work of this year’s filmmakers. Three major awards will be presented on the night:

• Best Film Award – chosen by our panel of judges
• People’s Choice Award – voted by you, the audience
• Best Emerging Filmmaker Award

The first 2 winners will receive a $2,500 cash prize, recognising their excellence in storytelling and cinematic craft.

The Best Emerging Filmmaker Award will take home a cash prize of $1,000 courtesy of Jonathan M. Shiff Productions.
